10 million pushes take 22 minutes, whatever you add

transcript

Marketing wants 10 million pushes out at 8 PM. Now. You double the workers. It still takes 22 minutes. Here's why.

Firebase allots 600,000 tokens a minute. One per send: about 10,000 a second. 4,000 a second is reserved first, for OTPs and payments. The campaign gets what's left. 6,000 a second.

Assume 80 percent are Android. That's 8 million through FCM. At 6,000 a second. About 1,330 seconds. That's 22 minutes.

So add more workers? Here's the catch. 15 workers already fill the quota. Double them, nothing changes. Extra workers just collect throttling errors faster.

So throttle the campaign at 6,000 a second, and let it run. Need it sooner? Start earlier, or get more quota. Never borrow the critical lane's share. Rohan's OTP still needs it.

10 million waiting in the bulk lane at 8 PM is the plan. So alert per lane. Only if it's still draining at 8:40.
