Delivery by Tuesday is a promise about a truck

transcript

The page says delivery by Tuesday. Then millions order tonight. Who makes sure that date stays true?

Flipkart handles about 4 million shipments on an average day. On a peak day of the 2025 sale: 7.3 million. More than 5,000 a minute.

Warehouses work in waves. Flipkart's example: a 12:30 cut-off, 20,000 units. Room in the wave? Your order catches the truck. But here's the catch. Wave full? Your order spills to the next. Spilled orders miss the truck. They likely wait 24 hours.

So when do you find out the wave is full? Find out after the order, and the promise breaks. So reserve a slot at checkout, like stock. The page's date moves before anyone orders.

One more trick. Waves usually fill first in, first out. But Flipkart reserves capacity for orders whose truck leaves soon. Orders for a later truck lose nothing by waiting.

A delivery date is a promise about capacity. Show a later date before the order. Never a broken one after.
