At hour 24, nothing deletes your story

transcript

At hour 24, your story leaves every follower's tray at once. And no job deletes it. Not from a single tray.

The tray asks one question. Who do I follow with something unseen? An index answers. Of Meera's 600 accounts, 90 have stories up. Close friends only? That's checked right now, at read time. She's fully watched 30. So the 60 unseen go first.

Here's the key. The tray is rebuilt from that index on every open. So what's in the index is what's in every tray.

The cousin posts a story at 6 PM. Its index entry expires in 24 hours. It rings in 420 trays. Next day, 6 PM. The entry lapses. The story leaves every tray at once. But here's the twist. Its media isn't deleted. It moves to her archive.

Now a cricketer with 270 million followers posts a story. Stories aren't fanned out. No writes to 270 million trays. It's one hot index entry. Replicate it, and pre-warm the edges.

So the story never really disappears. Since 2017, it's saved to the author's archive. Gone is about what the reader is shown.

Don't chase a story into every tray to delete it. Let one entry expire. Expire on the read side.

Full breakdown in the lecture.
