Where Blinkit's ten minutes really come from

transcript

Ten-minute delivery. Yet the rider has no countdown on his screen. He isn't racing. So where do the ten minutes come from?

Picking and packing take about two and a half minutes. The average ride? 2 kilometres at 15 kilometres an hour. 8 minutes. That's ten and a half minutes. Already over. And we haven't even started.

So budget every second. 10 to confirm. 20 waiting in the picker queue. 150 seconds to pick and pack. 20 to hand over to a waiting rider. 30 at the door. That leaves 6 minutes 10 seconds for the road. That's all.

At 15 kilometres an hour, every kilometre costs 4 minutes. So about 6 minutes of riding. That buys about 1 point 5 kilometres of road. That is the whole radius.

Most people optimise the road. Push the rider harder. But the road is the part you least control. And no push fixes this arithmetic. So win it before the road. More stores, closer to more homes. Pick in two and a half minutes. Plan the rider while the picker picks.

A true ten minutes only exists about 1 point 5 kilometres from a store. So the ten minutes are won in the store. Not on the road.
