Message queue: opening the Kafka box

One strong interview answer to a Kafka-style distributed log: a log rather than a queue so consumer groups share one copy, storage setting the broker count, segments, page cache and zero-copy for throughput, acks=all with two in-sync replicas, high watermarks and epoch-fenced leader elections, and delivery semantics set by when consumers commit.
