One strong interview answer to "design a notification system": one send API that stores and queues atomically with an outbox, a router that applies preferences and quiet hours, at-least-once delivery made harmless with idempotency and dedupe keys, breakers and backup providers, and high and bulk paths isolated at every stage so a 50 million message campaign never delays a login code.
