- Your API promises 5 s and calls fraud check, the bank and notifications.
- Giving each call 5 s means one slow call leaves nothing for the next.
- Give each call a share based on its P99, and pass on the time that remains.
- Fail fast when the budget runs out instead of doing work nobody will wait for.
- Deadline propagation passes the absolute deadline down the chain, so every hop knows the time really left.
