- A strict quorum fails the request when too few home replicas are reachable.
- A sloppy quorum accepts the write on any W available nodes.
- The stand-in node keeps a hint and forwards the write when the home node recovers.
- Better availability, weaker consistency: W + R > N no longer guarantees overlap.
