Materialized view.
also: materialized views · materialised view · materialised views · rollup table · rollup tables · rollup · rollups · pre-aggregationA stored, precomputed query result, such as hourly or daily rollups, refreshed as data changes, so dashboards read small tables.
the two-minute refresher
- Raw facts: billions of rows. Daily rollup: hundreds of thousands. Route each query to the smallest level that answers it.
- Materialized views: the database refreshes them and the optimiser can use them automatically.
- Rollup tables: you refresh them and query them explicitly, with full SQL flexibility.
- You trade storage and freshness for query speed.
