- Acquire for, say, 10 s; renew every few seconds while healthy.
- A crashed holder simply stops renewing and the lease frees itself.
- A paused holder may not notice it expired: pair leases with fencing tokens.
- A primary that can't reach the lease store stops accepting writes.
